A day at Rush Senegal Training camp
By Lamin Cham
Saturday, December 18 could not have passed like any other day in the life of Rush Senegal. It was the ‘Weekend Cap’, so called because it is the day set to test the lessons learnt from the twice midweek trainings with a friendly match.
This one passed with a bang and great excitement not just because of the high expectations from the match, but also because the CEO of The Rush, Tim Tschulz himself was on hand. Again it was the first weekend after the ‘Ramadan and Tobaski’ lull
The stage was also high because the boys wants to be part of the Rust Senegal team invited to
Texas in February2011. Then a litmus test therefore for the ever teeming number of players attracted to the club.
Rush Technical director Omar Sise had sent an invite to the reputed Moussa Diop Academy In Rufisgue,, who were hungry too for a test against stiff opposition .They arrived as usual little late, to found an fired up Rush team bursting with anticipation at the Plush Alassan Djigo Stadium in Pikine.
With little preamble the two sides sized up amid flash photography ( with Tim and myself forming a formidable press crew) and within minutes the match was underway. Rush Senegal started strongly and was the launchers of vigorous attacks and the conductors of masterly passes. And they put up a robust defense too. The passion was brimming and the tempo charming. However the Rusfisgue Boys poised the greatest threat with a steel composure and flawless play Their efforts were rewarded late in the first half when Amat Fall drilled in a splendid free kick. to the applause of their bench and a few neutrals that frequent the only pavilion in the stadium
With freedom to try as many players as possible, both sides shifted players, to dizzying point, with the Rush never failing to go for the revenge with a renewed aggressiveness. It paid off as Amat Cham leveled the score with a tantalizing header. Final score Rush 1 Rusfisgue 1.
A Second batch of players from both sides took the field in the second match which Rusfisgue managed to win 1-0, but only after surviving a barrage of attacks and pressure from The Rush boys.
The players and officials then exchanged pleasantries and celebrated and an exciting evening of joy. They both promised they would meet again.”
